Based on the artist's existing style preferences,
I created a moodboard focusing on dark purple and black tones.
While feedback was received on this initial direction,
implementation of changes is planned for future iterations.
Things like the detective in the bottom left corner being too small and kind
of insignificant, and the white lightning doodle being a bit too distracting
compared to the rest of the moodboard, are all things
that could be improved.
Using stakeholder input about target audience preferences,
I created this persona using Figma, a relatively new tool
for me since starting my study.
A conclusion I’ve come to based on feedback is that future research
should include more fieldwork to be more inclusive.
Things like interviews combined with online questionnaires are
a good way to get a better overview and understanding of the
target audience.
Taking initiative with Adobe InDesign (chosen after researching
Adobe design tools), I created the brandguide using this tool.
I collaborated with my team to define the brand's visual identity,
and implemented all of this using InDesign.
This was one of my first experiences with Adobe software,
providing a valuable learning opportunity in professional tools.
Though I am not a huge fun of Adobe due to its interface
(especially not InDesign), I did enjoy the process of
learning to work with this tool.
During the first project of the semester, I immediately started working with a real stakeholder and attended several meetings with them. To keep communication smooth, I created a WhatsApp group for the full team and another one just with my direct teammates to coordinate things like work times, running late, or general updates.
To manage the project properly, I checked Canvas regularly to follow the assignment guidelines. The first step listed was to make a moodboard, so I took the initiative to create it.
Throughout the project, I made sure to remind my teammates of the tasks they were responsible for and helped keep things moving forward wherever I could.
A Trello board was also set up (not by me), but I found it a bit tricky to use since I wasn't familiar with the system yet. It's something I want to get better at since it's been recommended a lot.
Motivation was a challenge for me during this project. When I noticed both myself and others struggling, it became harder to keep things going. Knowing how to stay on track and support others even when motivation is low is definitely something I still want to work on.
At the end of the project, I created the PowerPoint used for the final presentation.
The final presentation I decided to create a PowerPoint slide of our brandguide. This choice was made to ensure the client had a smoothe view during presentation. Presenting directly from InDesign can be a bit messy and not as professional.
To make sure the work during the presentation was divided equally, I made a list of all the slides and ensured that each member of the team spoke about their own contributions to the project. I made sure everyone talked about something that matched their strengths. I personally took care of setting everything up and handled the introductions.
As this was the first project of the semester and I was still finding my way and trying to build a routine, there's definitely room for improvement in future projects, but I also learned a lot.
I worked with a real stakeholder and took the initiative to lead the group. I managed communications by setting up WhatsApp groups to keep track of progress and send reminders span. I also learned how to use Adobe InDesign to create a brand guide, a new experience for me. I'm still fairly new to the Adobe suite, and I found InDesign's interface a bit frustrating to work with, especially when it came to basic things like zooming, which works differently compared to other Adobe programs.
I also pushed myself when it came to presenting. It's not something I typically enjoy, as I get really anxious, but I made sure to prepare, plan what I was going to say, and just went for it. Presenting is something I'll always need to do, so I'll have to keep working on it.
The tasks for this project included creating moodboards, persona research, using professional tools like InDesign, maintaining communication with the stakeholder, guiding the team through discussions, dividing tasks fairly, and developing and delivering the final presentation.
The end result was a completed brand guide with visual identity elements and a final presentation to the client. Working with Dana as our stakeholder was a great first experience. She communicated openly and was really enthusiastic, which made a big difference in how I experienced the project overall.
I gained valuable experience with tools and team leadership, though I know my time management could've been better. I also should've asked for more regular feedback and made a proper planning from the start. So for future projects, I need to focus on doing more in-depth research, collecting feedback more often, improving documentation habits, managing time better, and learning new tools to help me grow as a team leader.
